Featured on Latinas Represent discussing Mental Health Awareness and Community Transformation

By Yanira Hernandez

In May, during Mental Health Awareness Month, Dr. Yanira Hernandez, a first-generation Mexican American bilingual, trauma-focused Licensed Clinical Social Worker and educator, led a vital discussion on mental health and community transformation. Born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, Dr. Hernandez has over a decade of experience in various settings, including community mental health clinics, schools, and hospitals. She is the founder of Pa’lante Therapy Inc., focusing her work on BIPOC individuals, particularly within Latinx communities.

The event emphasized the importance of prioritizing mental health, especially for Latinas in public service. Dr. Hernandez highlighted the need to honor oneself as a foundational step in transforming communities. She encouraged attendees to lean on their support systems and the necessity of taking breaks to maintain mental well-being. This gathering was not just an event but a call to action for Latinas and all individuals to recognize and prioritize their mental health as a crucial aspect of personal and community development.
